IPL Records Made In 2021
Here are the Five IPL Records made in 2021
1. CSK Failing to qualify for play-offs
One of the most successful Frenchies and probably by the most compatible side. CSK, under the leadership of IPL’S most successful captains, MS Dhoni, failed to qualify for the match and was for the first time in the history of the tournament. From 2008-2019 CSK had qualified for the playoff in all the years. In these appearances, they appeared in finals eight times and won three times. But on March 30, 2021, Delhi Capitals officially promoted Rishabh Pant to the squad captain after Shreyas Iyer dislocated his shoulders while fielding a ball in the ODI series against England. Delhi Capitals had three matches in Wankhede, followed by two in Chennai, Four in Ahmedabad, and Five in Kolkata. Delhi Capitals won five games out of seven outings in the first half of the tournament and stood second in the table with the same points as table topper Chennai Super Kings.
2. Highest Successful Run-chase In IPL
Isn’t it unique that the record which was previously held by the same team Rajasthan Royals, since 2008 and the record was broken by the same franchise twelve years later but that was to be anticipated, and it was written in their destiny as Rajasthan Royals who pulled off an incredible chase against KXIP? They needed to chase a total run of Two hundred Twenty Four. Rajasthan Royals started well initially and with Sanju Samson and Steve Smith scoring excellent half-centuries. But after that, they were struggling; Tewatia at one end after losing Samson, and Sixty Four runs were needed at the last four overs. It had looked like an unbelievable task for the Rajasthan Royals. Just as they were crushing tewatia for his horrid display of batting, Tewatia made a dramatic turnaround. He smashed thirty runs off Sheldon Contterll’s over to take Rajasthan Royals closer to the target, and with just twenty-one runs needed in the last two overs; it felt like a cakewalk for Rajasthan Royals as Archer’s stunning hitting meant Rajasthan Royals won the match in 19.3 overs.
3. Twin Super Overs In A Single Match
Before the match, both Mumbai Indians and King XI Punjab had been a part of a Super over against RCB and Delhi Capital, respectively, with both of them ending on the losing side. However, they would not have imagined that they would be playing another super over in the same edition and playing Two super overs in the same match. Not to forget that on the same day, we had also witnessed another Super over between KKR and SRH in which KKR won dramatically. They were chasing a total run of one hundred seventy-seven; KXIP finished on the same score as Mumbai Indians, which led to an impressive second super over the day. Bumrah, who bowled the super over for Mumbai Indians, gave away just five runs. It felt like an easy win for Mumbai Indians, but Shami had different thoughts as he bowled stunning yorkers to give away only five runs, thus leading to another super over. In the second super over, we had new batting pair from KXIP as all three batsmen played the super over, whereas they had Kieron Pollard continuing for Mumbai Indian as he did not bat in the first super around, then it was Jordan’s turn to bowl the first over which he did and gave away eleven runs. Defending eleven runs, Boult couldn’t control his length as Gayle and Mayank finished the match in four balls, thus making it the most exciting game in the history of IPL.
4. Back To Back Wicket
He made a dream comeback, and Mohammad Siraj made a remarkable statement to knock off all of his viewers with this one spell. The Hyderabad-born pacer bowled back-to-back wicket maidens and finished with a fantastic stretch of 4-2-8-3. In this process, he became the first bowler in the history of IPL to have bowled back-to-back wicket maidens. Bowling first on a green track, Virat Kohli decided to give the new ball to Muhammad Siraj instead of Washinton Sundar pain dividends. Siraj’s pace and swings left KKR’s batsman railing. Coming to bowl the second over, Siraj first got Tripathi and then bowled a peace to get rid of Rana, but he didn’t stop there as in the next over, he got rid of the most dangerous Tom Banton, thus making back to back wicket maidens. Courtesy of his bowling, RCB bowled out KKR for eighty-four and the match in 13.3 overs.
5. Back To Back Centuries
It had taken one hundred sixty-seven innings for Dhawan to score his maiden IPL century, but as if his maiden IPL century wasn’t surprising, Dhawan had surprised everyone by smashing back-to-back centuries in IPL. In the process, Dhawan became the first player in the history of IPL to have scored back-to-back centuries. In his maiden IPL century, Shikhar Dhawan scored a match-winning run to help Delhi Capitals to chase a daunting task of one hundred eighty against the CSK. Whereas in his second successive century, Dhawan’s 106(61) went in vain as KXIP chased the target of one hundred sixty-five in nineteen overs. Nevertheless, these two knocks proved that he could be dangerous if Dhawan Bats with an aggressive mindset.
